The function of this path is not to remove one symptom or another that becomes bothersome in a person's life. This is not a treatment of sickness. Nor is the path simply a way of becoming a better person, of developing spiritually. All this happens, of course, But it must be fully understood by all of you, how matter how far you decide to follow, that the aim is the total realization of the divine kernel.

From Lecture #204 What is the Path?

What is Pathwork

The Pathwork is a spiritual path of self-purification and transformation based on the teachings channeled by Eva Pierrakos. These teachings, originating from a spirit entity of immense wisdom known as the Guide, are contained in a series of 258 lectures delivered through Eva from 1957 until her death in 1979. The lectures are profoundly concerned with self-responsibility, self-knowledge and self-acceptance.

The Guide Lectures

The lectures are the heart of the Pathwork. They cover a wide spectrum of the human experience from the individual personality to our relationship to others, to work, to love, to a connection to what we each know as God. The lectures teach that vital life energy, feelings and insight are often buried under misconceptions about the nature of reality. We're all familiar with some of these wrong conclusions. For example, it's weak to need and accept help; that we don't deserve love and kindness; that responsibility means a loss of freedom.

"Every human being senses an inner longing that goes deeper than the longings for emotional and creative fulfillment. This longing comes from sensing that another, more fulfilling state of consciousness and a larger capacity to experience life must exist."
-The Guide

When such misconceptions are carried into adult life particularly when they are unconscious the adult becomes controlled by forces beyond his or her awareness. To deal with this, the lectures offer specific tools for dissolving misconceptions, for making the unconscious conscious, and for activating the greater consciousness dwelling within every human soul.

Who is the Guide?

The Guide never identified himself by name, placing emphasis on the material delivered, not on the source. He said in one of his later transmissions:

"Do not be concerned with the phenomenon of this communication as such. Furthermore, take into consideration that every human personality has a depth of which he or she may as yet be unaware. At this depth, everybody possesses the means to transcend the narrow confines of his or her own personality and receive access to other realms and to entities endowed with a wider and deeper knowing."

The Pathwork Process

Our work with the lectures takes several forms. One is individual sessions with an experienced Pathwork Helper someone who has studied the Guide lectures for many years and has been trained to help individuals apply the teachings to their personal lives. Another is a supervised process/application group format. By working with relevant exercises and concepts from the lectures in a group environment, we can both assist and support one another in our individual journeys. We deepen our individual and group work through spiritual practice in the form of prayer and various meditations suggested in the lectures. We also use movement exercises to bring out the Guide's teachings on an energetic level. Today, the network of people practicing and teaching the Pathwork includes study groups in many areas of the United States, Canada, Europe, Africa, South America, and Australia. The Philadelphia Pathwork offers introductory workshops as well as ongoing teaching programs, both for students and for professional helper development. People interested in individual sessions with a trained Helper should contact Helpers in the Philadelphia Region.
