Living the path: Reflections on desires

Hi there,

David Zeliff here.  On contemplating November’s lecture #45: The Conflict Between Conscious and Unconcious Desires, I wonder:  Do we ever know if what we think we want, is what we actually want? Or if it is, why is it so difficult to get it?

This lecture questions whether we are even aware that there may be a part inside us that desires the opposite of what we think we want.  This part might desire that we don’t get what we want at all.  But how can that be true when we feel so certain of our desires?

And yet, how often do we find ourselves longing for that impossible thing that continuously seems to elude us?  Like that salary raise or that new car?  How often do we blame others for preventing us from having it?  This lecture challenges us to consider that maybe the obstruction isn’t really on the outside, but possibly something on the inside.

Come join us in our Living the Path discussions this month where we will continue to explore these possible inner obstructions to the growth we need to attain true pleasure and happiness in life.  Who knows?  We might even discover together aspects of our unconscious desires that we never knew existed!
